Campierganj, Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.

The Indian Journalist Association, Gorakhpur, expressed strong displeasure over the alleged assault on two female journalists by police personnel in Delhi and demanded the safety of journalists and freedom of the press. Led by Campierganj Tehsil President Devendra Pratap Singh, the journalists submitted a memorandum addressed to the President to Campierganj Sub-Divisional Magistrate Alok Ranjan Singh.
The memorandum demanded an impartial and high-level investigation into the incident, legal action against the guilty police officers, and the provision of justice and necessary security to the victimized female journalists. Incidents of abuse, intimidation, or assault on journalists during news coverage not only violate the rights of journalists but also pose a serious concern for press freedom and the democratic system.
On this occasion, Devendra Pratap Singh, Campierganj Tehsil President of the Indian Journalist Association, said that journalists serve as a strong bridge between society and the government. If a journalist is assaulted or mistreated while gathering news, it is not just an attack on the journalist, but an attack on their pen, their freedom of expression, and the voice of democracy. The alleged assault on female journalists is extremely serious and unfortunate. An impartial investigation is necessary, and if any police officer is found guilty, strict action should be taken against him in accordance with the law.
Devendra Pratap Singh stated that the Indian Journalist Association has consistently advocated for the respect, rights, safety, and independent journalism of journalists, and will strongly address any cases of harassment of journalists in the future. He added that democracy will weaken if journalists stop asking questions. Therefore, journalists should be given the right to perform their duties in a fear-free environment.
IJA District President Rakesh Kumar Mishra stated that journalists perform their duties as the fourth pillar of democracy. They stand for the truth, not against anyone.  Assault, indecency, threats, or undue pressure on journalists during news gathering are contrary to democratic values. Incidents of alleged assault, particularly against women journalists, should be taken seriously, and the truth should be revealed through an impartial investigation.
The District President stated that if injustice is committed against any journalist, the Indian Journalists Association will stand firmly with them at the organizational level. Demanding effective and practical measures for the safety of journalists from the central and state governments, he said that women journalists should receive special protection and respect during news coverage. He stated that democracy cannot be strengthened by intimidating the pen. Only when journalists are safe will they fearlessly raise the voice of the public. The safety of journalists is the safety of democracy.
The Association urged the President to take cognizance of the entire matter and direct the relevant authorities to take necessary action.
During this, District President Rakesh Kumar Mishra, Tehsil President Devendra Pratap Singh, Sachin Yadav, Satish Paswan, Anil Yadav, Virendra Pandey, Ajay Agrahari, Rakesh Chaurasia, Arun Kumar, Rammilan Kacher, Manish Kacher, Dharmendra Sahni, Pawan Kumar, Dayanand, Indrajit Pal, Satyendra Yadav and a large number of journalists were present.
